Ski Vacations
Have you considered a ski vacation? Do you know how to ski? It is not absolutely necessary that you do know how to ski. All of the major ski resorts offer packages that teach you how to ski. It is an easy sport to pick up. What better way to spend your vacation than learning how to ski. You may be skiing down the slopes after the first day of instruction!!
Most resorts have a ski school with instructors. They offer group and private lessons that are reasonably priced. It is to your advantage that you learn how to ski because then you will come back! It is best if you contact them before you arrive so, that they know you want lessons and they can plan ahead.
The first step in instructions, is to learn the proper use of the equipment including the boots, skis and poles. They can be awkward at first but, once you begin wearing and using them, they will become second nature. Spend some time learning how to care for the equipment, including waxing your skis and adjusting the tightness of your boots so that they are comfortable.
The first step to learn is the snow plow. It will teach you how to guide your skis and proper balance. You actually use your skis to plow through the snow. You place your skis in a triangular shape in front of you, with your poles at your side and you lean somewhat forward. Beware not to lean to forward or you will topple over! This technique allows you to learn the basics with minimal chance of falling or injury. This is a simple technique, but it is one that you need to master before you go on to the next step.
It is recommended that you practice this skill for a week or so until you feel completely comfortable. You will also need to learn how to get on and off of the chairlift. It may sound simple, but getting off of the chairlift can be challenging because it does not stop. So, as you approach the top of the mountain you have to slowly jump up and off of the lift with your skis on and hopefully, not fall!
Always take note of the slopes and the colored emblems. Most resorts, list the green hills for beginners, the blues for intermediates and the black for advanced skiers. If you are a beginner skier, avoid the blacks at all cost. Most likely these hills have moguls that can make your skiing adventure very dangerous.
Most of all, the object is for you to enjoy your ski vacation and to learn the basics. Make sure you take advantage of the lessons, so that you have a thorough knowledge of the sport. It can be dangerous if you do not know what you are doing. If you get tired, take some time out to have a hot chocolate in the lodge and warm up. It is a fun but chilly sport!
